MIDC returns back NIMZ proposal to acquire 6,000 acre land

National Investment Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) project proposed at Kuhi will be completed in two phases as first proposal of acquisition of 6,000 acre land was returned back to District administration by Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). Regional officer of MIDC, Vijay Bhakre confirmed the development and said that the proposal was rejected by the MIDC head office after noticing inclusion of 1,700 acre irrigated land in the said proposal.

NIMZ is an industrial zone spread over an area of 6,000 hectares that comes to almost a quarter of the present size of Nagpur city. NIMZs is being set up in 8 centers throughout the country, expected to drive growth of economy and boost the manufacturing units. NIMZ is being projected as a major catalyst for the region's growth. However, even as two such zones have been notified in the state the one in Kuhi has only got an in-principle approval. Following the approval, the administration identified 6,000 acre land near Kuhi village and sent proposal to MIDC HQ two months ago.

During scrutiny, MIDC noticed that 1,700 acre irrigated land was included in the said proposal hence, sent back the proposal and asked the administration to identify non irrigated or barren land.

The administration has decided to acquire land in two phases i.e. in first phase, proposal for acquisition of 3,000 acre land will be send to MIDC head-office for approval and then administration will search for another 3,000 acre land situated behind land mentioned in first phase. As per governments rule, NIMZ project requires minimum 5,500 acre land.

After approval from MIDC HQ, the proposal will be tabled in meeting of High Power Committee (HPC) of state for approval. When acquisition will be started for the said site, state government will notify to Government of India (GOI) and GOI will talk with international companies for installation of projects at NIMZ.
